How do I get my child into Children’s Day Program at DDI?

All students must be referred by their school districts for placement. In the case of NYC student referrals must come from the Central Based Support Team. The referral packet consists of current reports that describe the student.  If the packet contains information that describes the student as having characteristics of students we can serve, then our social worker will contact the school district and the family to arrange for a screening.

Our Social Workers are Candace Hamilton (631-266-4420) at Huntington (ages 5-14) and Amie Caulfield (631-366-2989) at Smithtown (ages 14-21).

I heard that DDI is expanding its school and Children’s Residential Program (CRP).  How do I get my child into that?

The expansion of the school and CRP is aimed at bringing NY students back from Out-of-State placements.  It is also to prevent students who are At Risk of being placed Out-of-State from leaving.  At Risk means they have multiple rejections at other In-State residential schools.   The students’ school districts will send us either information about the student or a referral packet for residential placement.  Our coordinated screening team (both Children’s Day and Children’s Residential Programs) will determine whether the student can be appropriately served in our programs.
