2017 DDI Stars Gala & Auction

DDI will be hosting its annual Stars Gala and Auction on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.  The 2017 honoree is DDI longtime  supporter, Edward Grilli.  DDI will also recognize two members of its Board of Directors who will be retiring at the end of 2017, Kevin Long and Karen Valerie.  The cocktail hour will begin at 6:30 P.M. followed by an exciting evening complete with dinner, dancing, raffles and auction. Proceeds from this event will go towards funding vital programs and services for the over 1,500 individuals DDI serves.   



Honoree Edward J. Grilli



Edward J. Grilli is the President and CEO of EJG Strategic Partners. Headquartered on Long Island, EJG is a strategic advisor to companies across North America, including public infrastructure firms, developers, engineering companies, material suppliers and governmental entities.  Ed serves on the Board of Directors of several companies in the energy sector and has assisted a number of developers in the financing and construction of large scale generation, renewables and transmission projects.
For more than three decades Ed served in several high-profile positions, including the New York State Assembly, the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office and later Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff of the Long Island Power Authority. During Ed’s tenure at LIPA, he oversaw the day-to-day operation of the Authority and the siting, permitting, development and construction of numerous power plants, undersea cables and transmission upgrades.
Ed has always found the time to volunteer and assist numerous charities and Foundations. Throughout the years, Ed has been an advocate for DDI and children and adults with developmental disabilities.  He has given much of his time and money to support DDI in its mission from fundraising to facilitating meetings with top elected officials to influence laws and legislation that directly impacts our community.
For his volunteer work, he has been honored as Man of the Year by such groups as the New York Horse Rescue, Long Island Youth Guidance, the Police Athletic League, and the Nassau-Suffolk Bar Association. He’s been given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Public Relations Professionals of Long Island, the New York State Broadcasters Association, the National Association of Counties and the Fair Media Council of Long Island. He’s been inducted into his High School Hall of Fame and covets the award of Merrick Father of the Year.
Ed is married to Maureen Conroy and they reside in Merrick, New York. Ed and Maureen have three children, Katie Grilli-Robles, Paul Grilli and Julie Scully and five grandchildren.

DDI would like to recognize two members of its Board of Directors who will be retiring at the end of 2017.  These extraordinary people have given countless hours of dedicated service to the individuals served by DDI.  Thank you Kevin Long and Karen Valerie for your many years of service.



Kevin Long has extensive experience in employee communications and engagement. He is currently consulting with a number of Fortune 500 organizations to improve performance and retain talent through strategic communications that align employees with organizational strategy, mission, vision and values. Previously, Kevin held senior communications and HR positions at Accenture, CA Technologies and Insidedge. He has an M.S. in Human Resources Management and Labor Relations and a B.S. in Technical Writing from the New York Institute of Technology. He currently chairs DDI's Human Resource Committee and has been an active board member on the DDI Foundation since 2005. He currently chairs the Strategic Planning Committee in addition to the HR Committee.  Kevin has a son who previously attended DDI's early education programs. 




Karen joined DDI’s Board of Directors in February 2008. Karen is a partner at Deloitte and Touche and has worked there since 1996 and has been a partner since 2008. She has a Bachelor’s Degree from St. John’s University in accounting. Karen is a member of DDI’s Audit Committee, which meets periodically with our independent accounting firm.  Karen has relatives with a child with autism and is therefore highly sensitized to the unique needs as well as the concerns of families raising children with developmental disabilities. Karen lives with her family in Bethpage.
