Intensive Behavioral Services (IBS) is a service available to Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) waiver-enrolled individuals. DDI provides up to six months of behavioral supports and services for adults or children living at home or in Family Care Homes where the child or adult presents with substantial challenging behaviors that put them at imminent risk of placement into a more restrictive living environment, such as a residential placement. Referrals to this service are received directly by the local Developmental Disabilities Regional Office (DDRO), either by families or Service Coordinators. The DDRO ultimately identifies the service provider once the family has been approved to receive the service. On long Island, DDI is presently one of four (4) approved providers for IBS.
Specially trained clinicians perform in-home evaluations that result in the development of a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Management Plan (BMP). The service includes the provider’s training of the family on the BMP, monitoring progress and revising the BMP as needed to achieve the desired outcome for the person served and the family.
