SMITHTOWN, NY— April 8, 2025 — Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) proudly announces that 16 of its dedicated employees have successfully earned National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) certifications through the NADSP E-Badge Academy as well as a SUNY partnership. These employees were celebrated at a special DDI event today, recognizing their commitment to excellence and professional development.

This achievement is part of a larger statewide initiative, a collaboration between the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), The State University of New York (SUNY), Farmingdale State College, and leading developmental disabilities service providers, including DDI.

The NADSP E-Badge Academy and SUNY Microcredential programs provide crucial training that leads to national certification in the distinct skills and competencies required of today’s direct support professionals (DSPs). The program empowers these professionals to make informed decisions, implement best practices, and advance their careers.

DSPs assist people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities in realizing their full potential and becoming valued and participating members of their communities. Their work is complex and goes well beyond caregiving, requiring skills including independent problem solving, decision making, behavioral assessment and prevention, medication administration, health and allied health treatment, teaching new skills, crisis prevention and intervention, and more.

DDI's participation in the E-Badge Academy further underscores its emphasis on innovation and leadership in professional development. The E-Badge Academy signifies a prestigious recognition of DDI's dedication to excellence and its proactive approach to industry advancements.

"We are incredibly proud of our 16 employees who have achieved this significant milestone," said Kim Kubasek, President & CEO of DDI. "DDI’s outstanding workforce is the heart of our mission, and these certifications are a testament to their focus on providing exceptional care and support. We are committed to investing in our staff, and this partnership with NADSP, OPWDD, and SUNY allows us to do just that."
