This month, DDI presented Michele Gervat, the American Heart Association's director of community health, with a basket of over 90 handmade red hats to be distributed to local hospitals. These hats were created for the Little Hats, Big Hearts initiative.
"Little Hats, Big Hearts™, honors babies and moms in a very special way. These tiny red hats, on thousands of babies, symbolize our shared mission of heart-healthy lives for everyone. The effort also raises awareness of congenital heart defects and what we can all do to help prevent them" (American Heart Association, 2019).
We are extremely grateful for this partnership and the opportunity to give back to our community. Special thanks to the talented crafters and all those who donated yarn to help create these beautiful red reminders to take care of your heart's health.
If you would like to participate in this project with DDI, please contact Joyce Sullivan at (631) 366-2928 or [email protected].
